The progression of the game isn't about a number (level 20), it's about learning the best ways (note the plural) of playing that character in different situations.

Yes, the fact that there's not monthly fee is a huge draw. But there's a lot of games out there (not neccessarily RPG's) that don't have monthly fees, and they totally suck.

What so you mean by "better" levels of progression? I like the way a player levels up in Prophecies better than in Factions. But the real progress a player makes in GW is in how well they play their characters & finding better ways of combinning their skills.

What keeps me playing? I've made some good friends playing GW & getting together and doing different things is always a blast. The variety in playing style & formats keeps it pretty fresh.

I've owned Guildwars Prophecies for 15 months now, and excpet for a 2 month break, pretty much played it frequently. Throughout all this time, I never had money to spare, the most I ever had was 120k, and spent all that in 10 mins. Now, however, I have a 55 monk and within a fortnight amassed 150k and some golds. Suddenly the game seems to have lost its appeal. I think the goal of being rich always kept me motivated but now that I have some money, I find I have nothing to buy with it. As I am not interested in the 'cool skins' i have top class weapons on all chars very cheaply, and I can not see the point of FoW armour. For the 1st time in the 15 months, i now feel the need to expand my playing experience,so i shall buy Factions.

I enjoy GW becuase it does things other MMOs skip out on. For example, it's free, as others have said, the level cap is low so you can pick up and go quickly. Also, its' fun to make new builds and kick the buns off of people in PvP 2 new areas a year is a plus, but what makes me happy most of all is the fact that it puts the RPG in MMORPG. From what I've seen and heard of other MMOs, they are severely lacking in the RPG half of their title.

(BTW lol at 55 monkey)

there are many things that GW is a wonderful game and that's the difference from other games, you can do a char that is so different from others , i would love to see more adds or upgrades.

@ Admins Bane:

The graphics are beautiful, IMo, but beauty does not always correlate to technical specs. Just beacsue some things may seem old or out of date does not mean it is not beautiful. Pre-Searing Ascalon, Istan and Shing Jea Island are all really really nice to look at. Sure Doom 3 may have more polygons, CS:s may have HDR, and other games may have 'more', but Guild Wars manages to do more with less.

And so as not to be falmed for being off topic. i have played for 13 months, mainly PvE, with a brief Hiatus before Factions came out, and the challenge of finding a really good build for my necro, and then ging back and refining them ( i started out as MM, thn switched to SS, and am now building up my MM skills, armour and weapons again). Also i was always strapped for cash, still am only got 40k, and the fact that everytime i got a good drop would always make me happy, as i could buy another sig of capture or skill or a new weapon. It is the challenge to make the best character you can, with the least amout of money/mats. More with less.

What keeps me playing is testing out new builds with all those skills as well as what others said 15K amrour and nice weapons. The graphics etc. When you make a char you aren't putting the time in to level it you are putting the time to improve it.

The graphics are very good for an MMO, which typically have sub par graphics.

Exploration.
Playing different classes, different styles. My first lvl 20 was a necro. My 2nd, a ranger, then a wammo, then a ritualist. Different game entirely, depending on the character.
Also, the periodic additions and changes...Sorrow's furnace, the UW, etc....
Really, I hope Factions gets its own SF soon.
and, of course, the expansion!

Hm yeah I hate to bring it to you but thats most about it.

Seriously though, I'd love to level higher than 20 and find many more weapon mods and types (Diablo II anyone?).

Until then, I enjoy new classes and content.

In the good tradition of another MMO game's forums:

Can I have your stuff?

Just for the fun of playing and IT'S FREE.
Honestly if it wasn't free I'd go back to strictly playing playstation/x-box.

Free - yes
New classes as secondaries for existing characters - yes
New primary classes/new characters - yes
Collecting stuff in PvE (skins, armor, titles, etc.) - yes
Collecting titles, wins, rank on a ladder for PvP - yes

But the real "progression" isn't your character's progression as it is in most RPG games, it's the progression of your skill as a player, whether doing PvE or PvP. Learning the missions, the capabilities of different monsters, ways to react/adapt to different PvP builds and teams, how to set up characters of different classes to accomplish the same goals, how to set up one character to accomplish different goals, when and how to pull a mob, etc. These things are the real progression in GW, the things that separate good players from bad - for some, it's a very quick progression, for others, it's a progression that never occurs. Especially with people eBay'ing entire accounts, having all the collectible "stuff" in the game is still fun, but it's only an indicator of "progress" if you do it yourself and learn in the process.
